Description:

This morning I ran pacman -Syyu and the following packages updated:

xf86-input-acecad-1.5.0-3
xf86-input-aiptek-1.4.1-3
xf86-input-evdev-2.7.0-1
xf86-input-joystick-1.6.1-1
xf86-input-keyboard-1.6.1-2
xf86-input-mouse-1.7.1-3
xf86-input-synaptics-1.5.99-0.2
xf86-input-vmmouse-12.8.0-1
xf86-input-void-1.4.0-3
xorg-server-common-1.12.0-1
xorg-server-1.12.0-1
xorg-xinput-1.5.99.1-1

After I rebooted and had problems I also reinstalled these two:
ati-dri-8.0.1-2
xf86-video-ati-6.14.3-2

My problem is that I boot and get a dark screen. my /var/log/slim.log has this error:

/usr/bin/X: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so: undefined symbol: pciTag

I also tried installing xdm and got the same error in my xdm.log

Reason for closing:  Won't fix
Additional comments about closing:  UMS isn't supported anymore. I don't tend to patch for UMS with an unstable git shot.

Please recheck if your mirror has all new packages. If it keeps crashing open an upstream bug.

You can easily find a similar issue from last November.

I can confirm this. I'm using kernel.org as a mirror and after last update, xserver doesn't start.

can you try xf86-video-ati-git from AUR? if this also fails please report it to the freedesktop.org tracker.

@garretraziel

in Xorg.O.log
[KMS] drm report modesetting isn't supported.

Please enable KMS and see if it fixes your problem

KMS should fix it, as this is a UMS-only bug:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati/commit/?id=89452c08048c98fb5cc3dc551b3824be40d52cf2

I think we should upgrade to -git instead.

..or apply this patch, that should be safer.
Comment by Jan Sedlák (garretraziel) - Wednesday, 14 March 2012, 06:56 GMT
I enabled KMS and it works now.

I installed xf86-video-ati-git from AUR. This also installed xf86driproto-2.1.1 and xorg-server-devel.
This fixed my problem without doing any KMS setup.

thanks everyone!
