Details

Description:
Two days ago I did a fresh arch install with KDE 4.8.0 and everything went fine. Yesterday I upgraded to KDE 4.8.1 and now I cannot select oxygen as widget style anymore (neither in KDE's system settings nor in qtconfig).
(see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=137257)

What I've tried so far:
* removed all of KDE's packages, reinstalled kde-meta
* removed ~/.kde4
* checked for QT_PLUGIN_PATH (is set to $HOME/.kde4/lib/kde4/plugins/:/usr/lib/kde4/plugins/)
* symlink'ed /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/oxygen.so to /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/oxygen2.so as suggested in the forum

Steps to reproduce:
I don't know, just did a pacman -Syu

How do you start KDE?
Please remove the symlink to keep unchanged our package installation.

Also, post the output of $ pacman -Qm

I'm starting KDE via KDM. KDM is started via the default entry in /etc/inittab.

I've removed the symlink. The output of pacman -Qm:
caledonia-bundle 0.9.8-2
profile-sync-daemon 3.0-2

Note that the problem persists when caledonia-bundle is removed.

Can you check for .pacnew files under /usr/share/config/kdm/ ?

Also, could you upload your ~/.xsession-errors file?

It's not associated to the 4.8.1 update.
A while ago this was discussed again in the forums [1].
I never had that issue. Maybe .xsession-errors contains some useful info.

Also, two suggestions:
1) Try deleting ~/.config/Trolltech.conf and restarting KDE
2) Try running some kde app with "- style oxygen" in konsole e.g. "kwrite -style oxygen"

@BaSh: indeed, there is a kdmrc.pacnew file. I have now replaced kdmrc with this file but no effects. xsession-errors is attached, although gzipped due to loads of akonadi error messages..

@birdflesh: thanks for the link. Although it seems spiros was having the same issue I'm seeing now, I cannot "solve" it the same way. As described above I've already tried symlinking the file, like suggested in the forum (I hope that symlinking and copying does not make much of a difference here), but with no effect.

@birdflesh: '-style oxygen' did not work but deleting Trolltech.conf did the trick! Now oxygen is again selectable as widget style and Qt applications finally look nicely again. Firefox still looks the same but I guess I'll have to delete yet another config file for this.

to both of you, thank you very much for helping me solve this! and sorry for the bugreport, I really didn't expect this to be a configuration issue. Thanks again!
