Detailssudenly and all of a sudden, the gnome battery status stopped working. It says that:
Can't access ACPI events in /var/run/acpid.socket! Make sure the ACPI subsystem is working and the acpid daemon is running. Also, I get this when I try to load acpid: [root@lc2430 eugenia]# /etc/rc.d/acpid start :: Starting acpid [BUSY] acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event: Device or resource busy [FAIL] |

I think it has something to do with the updates for Hal und Dbus.
A few minutes before i noticed the acpid-problem i updated my system using "pacman -Syu" and the following packages were updated:
dbus, hal, gnome-vfs, gnome-volume-properties, hal-device-manager, ivman, k3b, kdebase, vlc
The acpid-daemon should be started before dbus und hal
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hotplug !pcmcia network netfs ntpd crond acpid dbus hal cups !acpid mdns clamav !privoxy kdm)
After the next reboot acpid started just fine.
I don't think there's another solution than reversing hal and acpid in the daemons array. Another thing I can think of is getting rid of the gnome battery applet and replace it with a hal/dbus based one that also is able to read out battery status from your wireless mouse, which is even better.
