It was a conscious decision to remove this utility. uname is the preferred tool to use.

What is the issue you are seeing? Any reason `uname' can not be used instead?

no, no reason at all. I even knew about uname but was just surprised during a new install that I though I had accidentally made 32 bit rather than 64. Out of habit i types arch and got nothing in return. I will gladly commit uname to memory.
