* strace output on hdup:
stat64("/usr/etc/hdup/hdup.conf", 0xbfffda10) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

In the previous version hdup.conf was placed in /etc/hdup/hdup.conf (as the man page states).

I'm pretty sure you just need to set sysconfdir in the configure line as well as the make install line (does DESTDIR not work with hdup?)

I believe I've read something on the hdup2 maillist about this issue.
(I'm not very sure though)
