Additional comments about closing:  This bug is a year and a half old, there have been many new versions of kaffeine since, and i doubt it's still an issue.

i cannot reproduce this (well ... i don't have much avi files). does kaffeine say something more in the console? what kind of avi file is this (codec? ..?) does it work fine with mplayer?
