Description:
First off. Please do not close this bug untill a braille user has confirmed that brltty is working. There was a bug on the same topic, but it is now closed. First, here is a link to the apparent complaint. I'm not sure if this is due to the move to at-spi2 or the change in the key. But I'd like to let this bug sit here untill someone with more knowlege than I has a chance to comment on it. AKA any of the following people: Michael Whapples(mwhapples), Trevor Saunders, Mike Gorse.

The problem of at-spi and at-spi2 has been in the system since 2010, however no solution to it has been provided till now. And now on a vanila system, as far as I can tell, at-spi and at-spi2 conflict:

So don't be too quick to close this bug. Lets get things sorted out.

I see this being a more general bug and I can't really understand what is the problem.

at-spi is not installed along with at-spi2 unless dasher is installed.

All the other components like brltty, pyatspi, at-spi2-core are in place.

I must admit that I also do not understand the problem at all. But since this is a case of "it just doesn't work" when it clearly does work on ubuntu and debian, we need to figure out why it doesn't 'just work' on arch... As I said, I don't understand the problem. I do understand, however, that if this gets resolved on some mailing list with some god awful work arround, then the actual arch package will never be fixed... So please leave the bug open, and I'll try to go find someone who does understand this. I have sent a link to this report to the orca mailing list, where the appropriet people reside.

From what I understand it's possible by now to use at-spi2 only and it doesn't play nice any more with at-spi 1.
Braille should work, but I cannot confirm this. Ubuntu did switch to at-spi2 only since their last release.

I stopped testing accessibility on arch since I could not get accerciser to run sensibly with python 2/3 and at-spi 1/2 all mixed up the last time I tried.

This is what I thought too when I suggested the change. But it broke for this user :(
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/orca-list/2012-February/msg00120.html

I have an idea, which is that maybe he has in his /etc/brltty.conf file brltty set to use at-spi 1 and that the problem is on his side. I'll ask him to post that file next.

Hi

I've just done a clean install of Arch and come across what is presumably this bug. If I run brltty no Braille is displayed. I then ran brltty -n -e and got the following error:
Can't get dbus session bus: ... unable to autolaunch a dbus daemon without a $DISPLAY for x11.

Is this still a problem?

The brlapi issue has been resolved(I hope ;) ) However, Samuel has one more request regarding build flagsbrltty@mielke.cc/msg06763.html"> http://www.mail-archive.com/brltty@mielke.cc/msg06763.html and that is, that the "--enable-screen-driver=" flag be removed.

try to check if the version in testing now works correctly, I believe this report will be closely linked with this https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/34409

It appears that this is fixed, and the issue timthelion brought up at the end is fixed with  FS#34409 . Any objection to closing this?
