Description:udev update moves files to wrong directory

Additional info:update of udev version (180-1-> 181-2) broke apps, when update is run udev according to pacman info moved files from /sbin to /usr/bin when in fact it move them to /bin, the move was actually symlinks and I dont know how many files. I found items like lsmod linked from /sbin to /bin and nothing in /usr/bin. Applications like Vmware totally broken when looking for lsmod. Can't build kernel modules etc.
* package version(s) udev version (180-1-> 181-2)
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce: Run current update 2/13/2012 of udev and check location of files.

uh, what?

Need to see the output of:

ls -ld /usr/bin /bin

Post your /etc/fstab as well.

To add to falconindy's comment, we need more info, as this does not make any sense to me :)

To see what files a package contains, you can run "pacman -Ql <pkgname>". Udev should contain /usr/bin/udevadm and /usr/bin/udevd (which is a symlink to /lib/udev/udevd).

The other files you mentioned are part of the kmod package. That package should contain only one real binary (/usr/bin/kmod), and several symlinks to kmod: /sbin/modprobe and several others living in /usr/bin/.

First I apologize for the lack of detail, I was in a panic. I am using x86_64 here is the other info you requested and some other evidence. according to pacman log, regarding udev "binaries moved from /sbin to /usr/bin"

I don't see anything wrong here besides the "missing" modinfo.

pacman -Qk kmod
pacman -Ql kmod

Vmware was running fine before update, also I copied over a backup from a couple of days back same thing. Vmware works I update, it no longer works, I reinstall and it cannot build kernel modules. If there is other information I can give you please let me know.

You could provide output from the two pacman commands I gave...

I copied over a backup again and this time, I did the system update but I didn't uninstall vmware and applied fixes from Da_Coynul on this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=135681, that solved the immediate problem, but once the next kernel update comes out, I will not be able to rebuild modules. Here is the output that you asked for:

pacman -Qk kmod

So, contrary to your original post, there are in fact binaries in /usr/bin (not /bin). The forum post you link merely provides _additional_ symlinks to placate vmware. These will not go away on upgrade. There's nothing that I can fix here. vmware-player is not an Arch package so you are left to your own devices.
