Judd, you were right, ALSA 1.0.9 has weird problems...

I usually have XMMS playing eurodance from www.di.fm on the background, and at the same time I do other things. So, since the 1.0.9 driver upgrade every 2-3 minutes XMMS will lose the connection, the music will stop playing. But this is not all, at the moment this is happening, the *whole* desktop "pauses". For example, if you are typing something, the keyboard stops responding for 2 seconds or so. If you are playing a game (I was playing Ltris) not only the keyboard stops responding, but also the *graphics* stop moving (the tetris pieces stall).

My laptop is this one:

Weird stuff. I personally can't report any problems with alsa. My first guess is that it's a problem specific to your driver. What sound chip do you have?

An onboard intel ac97.

Judd, it's a real bug: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=97836
Could you check if there is a patch for it?

A new kernel is going in Current now, please try it (2.6.12.2) and see if the problem persists.
