Details
One of several minor annoyances with read-only root
filesystem is the fact that /media becomes write-protected
and external storage can't be mounted.
There is no unique "fix", but the simplest one is to mount /media as a tmpfs in fstab alongside /tmp. Attached is a trivial SVN patch to accomplish this. TIA. |

I don't think this applies to enough people to warrant making it
the default.
After discussing with Dave: this is probably not worth it. People
will complain and be confused, while in the end /media will
probably just go away so problem will solve itself. I'd be in
favor of updating wiki and spreading the word though: /media
belongs on tmpfs.
