DetailsVirtuoso database from extra repository doesn't include isql{,w} clients. Of course, those clients cannot be included out of the box since they conflict with unixODBC's clients, but that still doesn't make them unneeded.
I made an AUR package virtuoso-with_clients (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=56230) that is an exact copy of the stock virtuoso package but which includes those clients, renamed into /usr/bin/isql-v and /usr/bin/isqlw-v. My hope is that you would consider copying the code from my AUR package into the stock package so that the clients are included always. Why would anyone need clients, you might ask? Well, first of all, virtuoso is a core component of the KDE desktop (namely nepomuk desktop search), and if someone would want to analyze what nepomuk is doing with the database, he would have to use those clients (for example: http://kdeatopensuse.wordpress.com/2011/11/09/debugging-nepomukvirtuosos-cpu-usage/). Other than that, I guess if somebody would be using virtuoso for their own projects they might want to have a command line clients for the database as well. |
