FS#2805 - Install CD network configuration : dhcp fails after auto module detection with 2 cards
|
DetailsI have 2 PCI eth cards : 1st one using "e1000" module (on motherboard), 2nd one using "tulip" module.
dhcp detect fails after modules auto-detect when my router is connected to the "e1000" card and nothing is connected to "tulip" card. Connecting on the other card works all right, even without a reboot. To "force" on e1000 card, I just had to manually 'modprobe e1000' after a reboot, before dhcp detection. Hence the 'Low severity'. Trouble is I'm not sure I'll be able to plus my router to any card (one at the time) without editing /etc/rc.conf |

Have you tried having the ethernet modules loaded from the MODULES=() array in rc.conf instead? Hotplug's auto-detection may be mixing up the eth0/1 ordering.

The problem is indeed to do with the ordering of ethernet devices as they are detected. I'll try to improve the auto-detection interface for the next release.

I think you should include some kind of dialog showing the ethernet cards detected in the computer. Then the user could choose the one to use for the installation.
