Description:
As soon as I updated my Latitude E6410 laptop to the latest kernel release (at the time of this writing, 3.2.1-1) I have no sound whatsoever. Alsa speaker tests via the commandline won't work, no channels are muted, and not even Pulse Audio works. Reverting back to 3.1.9-2 brought audio back instantly.

Additional info:
* lspci | grep Audio: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)

Steps to reproduce:
Simply upgrade to 3.2.1 and experience no sound from any source or program, internal or external.

No, I do not use HDMI. This laptop doesn't even have HDMI.

i can confirm that. No sound at all after kernel upgrade.
kernel - 3.2.1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT
sound device - Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)

EDIT:
The downgrade kernel to 3.1.9-2-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT will fix the issue.

With the kernel update today, sound is back (kind of). Now, I have to disconnect the speaker cable and reinsert it again in order to get sound. Once I do, sound returns for both the internal and external speakers. If do not do that, I don't get sound. I have to do that each boot in order to enable sound again, as the machine will start out completely silent.

What's the status on this with 3.4.1?
Comment by Jeremy LaCroix (jlacroix) - Sunday, 10 June 2012, 19:22 GMT
Sound was fixed in a further kernel update of some sort a bit later.
