Gtk3 is not a required library for this package. Package just ships theme for gtk3.
Currently because of such depends, packman requires to install gtk3.

I recommend to move gtk3 from depends to makedepends and optdepends.

I see your point, but the same case can be made for gtk2.

I don't see removing either runtime dependency as an option, sorry. (Remember though, that you can build a package without gtk3 using ABS.)

Point is that this package is a required dependency of xfce core packages. While xfce don't depend on anything from gtk3 world, I'm still not convienced that gtk3 should be a dependence here.
I know about aur, but if I'd been a fan of compilation I would stick with gentoo.

Starting with 2.99.0-2, the engine and themes for gtk3 are in a separate package than those for gtk2.

The gtk-xfce-engine package will be replaced by gtk2-xfce-engine on upgrade.

Hope this is a satisfactory solution to the dependencies issue. :)
