Meld will not start due to what seems to be an issue with python 2.7 and the gtk icon theme. Additional info: Fairly fresh install. Works fine here. The errors on your screen are reproducible when I unset DISPLAY, so I think this is a mistake at your side, not in the package.

What could lead to DISPLAY not being set, should my video driver package be setting it, gnome 3 or should it be exported somewhere in .bashrc for example? I run a stock i5 intel sandybridge chip with the HD3000 and intel driver package.

Probably you're running it as root or something like that. If you can't start meld and get this error message, I suppose you can't start things like gedit either from that same terminal.

That would be it, I was running it under sudo trying to get a visual diff of pacnew files. Won't be able to test till I get home this evening but I would assume this can now be closed.
