From a fresh Arch Linux instalation, pacman doesn't installed python-distribute package, required by ipython. Even that distribute is a common package in python environment, it's not installed by default. So add python-distribute dependency to python. Edit:: Just tried removing the package then reinstalling the python-distribute package which fixed the issue so I believe its still just a dependency issue. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this update!
IMHO missing dependencies issues should be fixed bumping pkgrel, not only in trunk.
