$ iotop Netlink error: Operation not permitted (1) iotop requires root or the NET_ADMIN capability. The reason for the change is here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2011/12/msg00389.html In response to the issue: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=716842 So, Arch can either grant the NET_ADMIN capability as a convenience via post_install, or not. Unfortunately it is not possible to run iotop as a regular user with limited/restricted capabilities, as far as I know. I am uninformed as to the security implications of granting capabilities to iotop on a single-user scale, much less to an entire distribution, hence deferred here. Additional comments about closing: If you wish to have the capability to run as non-root back as in pre-3 kernel, I suggest you talk to upstream. I do not plan to do any changes in the package.
