Detailsi just checked the new version of totem with some .mov and divx files (proprietary plugins) and it's slower than when it was using xine. I am clearly seeing my video being a bit jerky on this P4 at 2.8 GHz, whereas it was more than fine when it was using Xine (it's not as smooth anymore).
Please optimize, it is *not* acceptable to have a perfectly working totem and then going one step back by using gstreamer, in terms of performance. Gstreamer is a great solution, but I am not sure it will benefit Totem at this point in time. |

Video is not jerky at all on my Athlon XP 1700+ testsystem, it only consumes 10% extra CPU compared to mplayer, which is not that bad.
I talked to on of the GStreamer developers, who told me that gst-plugins 0.8.9 and gst-ffmpeg 0.8.5 are in the release process. These releases speed up GStreamer a lot, so some patience would be good.
Together with these new gst-plugins and gst-ffmpeg, I will put totem 1.1.2 in the repositories, since that version, together with the new gst-plugins has most of the missing features resolved.
