DetailsDescription:
See bug #27515 for some background. Mplayer currently (as of version 34344-1) depends on libpulse. This dependency directly violates KISS because it introduces additional unnecessary package and causes new bugs in non pulse-aware applications. Mplayer can be compiled without support for PulseAudio and it should be done because: 1) Mplayer does not take advantage of any PulseAudio-specific features, 2) Arch build of Mplayer currently depends on Jack that does almost same things as PulseAudio, 3) ones who need PulseAudio features can simply install pulseaudio and use automatic ALSA emulation Fast solution: add "--disable-pulse" to mplayer PKGBUILD remove dependency on libpulse the PKGBUILD Steps to reproduce: try to install mplayer |

libpulse is a libray like any other library. It doesn't violate KISS and it doesn't introduce unnecessay packages. pulseaudio is not pulled and you are freely to choose what audio audio suites you.
