Details

The PKGBUILD uses:

--with-user=9 \
--with-group=13

but this doesn't work in fetchnews. It tries to find the user named "9"

Is it the same as  FS#27242 ?
Have you tried the most recent version i.e. 1.11.8-4?

1.11.8-4 works - although I did try to create a "news" user with uid 9
