"hwd" is an excellent tool for configuring Arch Linux and it's only logical that it should appear in the "base" list of packages and definetly not in "extra". This tool is crucial to some of us.

in base ?
are you crazy?
hwd is not something like glbc or a kernel which you need to setup a base system.
its just an extra tool for users which dun know their hardware

well, if you don't know the kernel module for your NIC then you CAN'T setup your base system to function properly. I would call it the ESSENTIAL TOOL, because Arch don't have any hardware detection during install. If not "base" then it should go to "current".

just like i said.. a tool for ppl which dun know their hardware...
you could just take a look at your network card chip and then you know the proper module

I notice that hwd depends on lshwd. What does hwd do that lshwd itself does not?

"you could just take a look at your network card chip and then you know the proper module"

Now you are crazy, i will be opening pc that i plan to install Arch on just to read the name from the f&*&^^ network card chip.. rotfl.I can use lspci for that, BUT and even if I know the name i still don'tr know the name of the KERNEL MODULE and hwd displays it.

Judd, hwd is just the front-end to lshwd. I think most people would just be satisfied with lshwd in base. From the Arch community responses i see most people want that feature, so consider adding it, it's not that big, but i
think really important, especially for people who got exotic hardware.

Alright, I will add lshwd to Base. The impact on base will be minimal, since lshwd's dependencies are already present in Base.
