Bitlbee 3.0.3-5 currently implements a broken fix for the recent HTTP redirect troubles with the MSN protocol. Applying the diff of lib/http_client.c from http://bugs.bitlbee.org/bitlbee/changeset/devel,824 I've built a working copy of Bitlbee. I've attached the exact patch I used.

What do you mean by "broken fix"? The upstream commit you refer to mentions that it undoes this "old workaround" but does not say anything about it being broken.
If bitlbee is not currently broken, I would prefer to wait for the next upstream release rather than repatching our package.

I'm saying the current fix in 3.0.3-5 is broken since it does not work for me. It still timeouts after printing the "getting buddylist" message. The new fix does work.

Could you confirm that bitlbee-3.0.3-6 from [testing] fixes your issue?

I can confirm 3.0.3-6 from [testing] as working.
