Description:
While trying to resolve a DNS using wget or curl (or any other application for that matter) I get a "Name or service unknown". However, nslookup, ping and host can resolve this DNS and all others tested. Works on other platforms behind the firewall. The names are resolved out of the box on Ubuntu and windows. I've also tried this on two arch boxes from inside of the network. If I run "wget -4" instead of just plain "wget", the name resolution works. The problems with this: - Why does -4 work and not -6? Shouldn't it fall back to 4? - Why does this work in Ubuntu 10.10 but not Arch. Additional info: - ipv6 disabled, was not disabled before, tried this to resolve the problem - behind corporate firewall, need proxy to access outside - issue does not exist in ubuntu 10.10 or windows - related package versions - iputils 20101006-1 - wget 1.13.4-1 - curl 7.22.0-1 - dnsutils 9.8.1-1 Steps to reproduce: - See example.txt Related help materials: - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=504951 - http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=264792 Thanks! |
