Details

Description: If you use PulseAudio as your default sound. Ones you install audacious and start it, you will see error box "snd_mixer_find_selem failed". This is easily fixed, simply go in your audacious preferences and select "PulseAudio" as your audio output.

Steps to reproduce:
# pacman -S audacious
-- change your audio to PulseAudio, if its not using it as default.
-- then open audacious player, and you should see this fail error.

Alright. So how should we fix that in the package?
(I don't know much about pulseaudio myself.)

I'm not even sure what this report is saying. "snd_mixer_find_selem failed" is an ALSA error; it shouldn't be printed if PulseAudio output is used.

Dear reporter, could you provide details as to how exactly your sound system is configured, and under which precise circumstances you get the error message?
