Reason for closing:  Upstream
Additional comments about closing:  Upstream config parser doesn't seem to handle old 4.7.* config files well. Works as expected after removing ~/.mc and ~/.config/mc.

Works here, on x86_64:
community/mc 4.8.0-1

I can start mc, select .zip and other compressed files, enter and see the contents, no problem.
Also tried removing ̃/.mc and it still worked fine.

Have you installed utilities like "unzip"?

I also can't reproduce this issue, all working as expected here. I'm closing this if we don't get any more comments in the next couple of days.

strace log file attached.
produced with:

[root@fx /]# strace mc 2> /mc-4.8.0.strace_log
place vcron.tgz with "End" key
press 4 times "Enter" key
exit with "F10" key

F3 key work fine, but enter not work.

I see these lines in your strace:

chdir("/vcron.tgz#utar") = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

I can only reproduce these if I enter "cd tarfile.tar#utar" in mc as described here: https://www.midnight-commander.org/wiki/doc/faq#a7.1HowcanIseethecontentsofatararchive

Enter and F3 both work fine for me.

Have you tried running mc in a clean context? A new user/new installation/virtual machine?

very interesting.
i try now with new normal user account and enter key work fine.

mc-4.8.0, new normal user, with "cd" command gives this errors:
"cd /vcron.tgz#utar" -> Cannot chdir to "/vcron.tgz#utar" No such file or directory (2)
"cd /vcron.tgz#utar:" -> Cannot chdir to "/vcron.tgz#utar:" No such file or directory (2)
"cd /vcron.tgz#utar://" -> Cannot chdir to "/vcron.tgz#utar://" Success (0) [say Success but not enter inside archive]

with mc-4.7.5.5:
"cd shaman-1.0.9.tar.gz#utar"
"cd shaman-1.0.9.tar.gz#utar:"
"cd shaman-1.0.9.tar.gz#utar://"
all this "cd" commands, F3, Enter keys work fine, no problem. in mc-4.8.0 something wrong or different.

i guess this is not always reproducible bug. if so, we can cancel this bug report.
thanks.
