After install it from testing, my mouse didn't work, after downgrade, works correctly.
My mouse: Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0
Gnome 2.2 started with gdm, linux 3.0.7, Xorg-server 1.11.1-2

Steps to reproduce:
Install util-linux 2.20.1-1 from testing, but i think that it's bug only for this mouse

This sounds very, very weird... Could you attach dmesg and Xorg logs?

Could you verify that no other packages are involved, by rebooting between changing between util-linux versions?

This is more likely a udev problem than a util-linux problem... you'll need to post /var/log/Xorg.0.log from both a working and a non-working boot.

Also, the output of lsusb with a working and a broken boot, and the output you get in dmesg when plugging in the usb device in the working and the broken boot would be very useful.

I agree with Dave that udev is a likely culprit, though it could also be the kernel, Xorg or even gnome. But we'd need to see some more output. util-linux seems very unlikely though (but weirder things have happened), and I'd really like to eliminate it ASAP so that I can push that to [core] as it includes some relatively important bug fixes.

udev is a much more likely candidate here given that I can just point the finger at the input_id helper changes.

Stupid question for Michal: Have you rebooted since upgrading to util-linux 2.20.1?
Comment by Michal Bien (Glorf) - Friday, 21 October 2011, 20:42 GMT
Yes, of course I have rebooted...
I will send logs soon
Comment by Michal Bien (Glorf) - Sunday, 23 October 2011, 13:37 GMT
Here are logs.
First boot is with latest util-linux. Mouse not working.
Second and third - after downgrade, with working mouse.
Xorg log is from first boot.
It's an util-linux bug, there was no problems after upgrading udev.
P.S. When I built util-linux 2.20 (old) from PKGBUILD (without patches!) mouse didn't working too!
Probably I need to apply some patches from 2.20 to 2.20.1?

You're only providing further evidence that this isn't util-linux. The only difference in the boot logs is is that the usbhid module isn't loaded when your mouse doesn't work. It appears that it's getting loaded from the initramfs (via usbinput, i guess). If you explicitly load this (via the initramfs or rc.conf) does the mouse work?
Comment by Michal Bien (Glorf) - Sunday, 23 October 2011, 18:20 GMT
Thanks a lot! After load usbhid manually, mouse is working correctly. But why it isn't loading automatically after update util-linux?

@Glorf: could you check that you do not have any stale old udev rule files? If you grep in /{etc,lib}/udev/rules.d/* for "SYSFS" and "BUS" you should not find anything.

OK, after update to linux 3.1 it works correctly and loads automatically. Task to close.
