Description:

I opened a bug in the past for openoffice not supportting lpd like printer spoolers (lprng being my case). I would expect "generic printer" to be available as a printer when:

gtk-print-backends = "file,lpr,cups"

Is part of gtkrc. According to prior bug on openoffice, configure option --without-ppds has been added to reduce package size.

Moreover the reason for closing it was:

I cannot imagine why somebody doesn't want to use the ppds and printers provided by cups. But feel free to use ABS and rebuild the pkg without that option.

How big of space is that one gotten by disabling ppds? I'm one that doesn't like cups and I'm not planning to use it. I prefer lprng, and I have done it for more than 10 years.

libreoffice is one of those huge packets I don't like compiling. It takes too much time. And is the gain for not compiling with ppd support really meaningful? libreoffice is already huge, I can't believe supporting ppd will make the package considerably huge, like 2x the current size...
