I'm maintaining several AUR packages. For most updates I only need to edit the version number and the md5sum in the PKGBUILD.

It would be very easy if there was a simple online editor for the PKGBUILD. The source package could be built on the server.

Right now everything has to be done offline. That's more complicated than it needs to be.
This task depends upon

I am not comfortable with this (although I see it may be convenient for minor changes).
PKGBUILD files should be tested before making them available in the AUR. This includes at least building the package, running namcap on the files and executing the program (if possible).

There are several programs to facilitate the upload of the source packages.

I understand your concern. I just think some things can't be tested. Take for instance the google-talkplugin PKGBUILD I'm maintaining. I look into the deb file Google provides to see if dependencies changed. I then change, build, install but I can't make sure the 32 bit version works as well as I'm on a 64 bit system.

We do not want to build source packages on the server. If you use a sane editor, makepkg(1), an AUR upload helper like aurploader [1] or burp [2] and a shell alias, updating and resubmitting a package should be even faster than using some webinterface.
