After recent updates I have seen KDE desktop shell crashing suddenly.

Please try deleting your ~/.kde4 dir and /var/tmp/kde-*
And please test with a new user.

I think if I delete ~/.kde4 I shall lose my settings. Is there a way of retrieving it?

$ mv ~/.kde4 backup

After getting new configuration, the bug has not appeared yet.
