The cvsup PKGBUILD in abs currently provides only prebuild binaries. The i586 team was unable to use the precompiled binaries at one point (due to glibc and linuxthread issues). I make a pkgbuild that would actually compile cvsup from source. It is not the prettiest, but it gets the job done.

Maybe it would be a reasonable starting place for a new pkgbuild for abs, after the devs clean it up appropriately. This might be useful for other architectures or something...
