E.g. do we allow blacklisting modules in rc.conf?

didn't fix it.

The iso https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DeveloperWiki:2011.08.19 provides initscripts 2011.07.3-1 so something went wrong here.
This task depends upon

So what exactly is wrong?
Something in the official installation guide? Can you point to which part?

MODULES: In this array you can list the names of modules you want to load during bootup without the need to bind them to a hardware device as in the modprobe.conf. Simply add the name of the module here, and put any options into modprobe.conf if need be. Prepending a module with a bang ('!') will blacklist the module, and not allow it to be loaded.

initscripts 2011.07.3-1 does not have USEDIRECTISA, MOD_AUTOLOAD, ROUTES.
Copyright has been left to 2010.

About the wiki version of the guide:
The Official Guide has been translated to other languages besides English, and listing the available languages in the summary box on the right side is not consistent with the rest of the wiki. Besides, template i18n_entry has been long deprecated in favour of template i18n, and anyway it was intended to be used between i18n_start and i18n_end.
{{Article summary wiki|http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners_Guide Beginners Guide}} should be changed to {{Article summary wiki|Beginners' Guide}}.
The use of contractions like "it's", "doesn't"... is deprecated on the wiki.
Category "HOWTOs (English)" is deprecated.
Comment by Dario Giovannetti (kynikos) - Sunday, 21 August 2011, 13:48 GMT
The summary box on the right says "This guide is only valid for release 2010.05 or newer", I think the date should be updated.

Not sure if pasting all the errors here makes sense.
On a related note I've seen contractions like "we've" and "it's" used in the dialog boxes in the installer.

Are there plans to ship another iso soon or should we focus on fixing the Guide that's in the wiki?
Comment by Karol Błażewicz (karol) - Tuesday, 30 August 2011, 22:21 GMT
WRT to task closure request: it's not only a wiki thing, this is included on the official release iso - that's the main problem.
Comment by Dieter Plaetinck (Dieter_be) - Friday, 23 December 2011, 21:21 GMT
well, it's impossible to go back in time and fix the previous iso. but let's make a list of things which need to be fixed in the official installation guide:
* modules information (+ also a way to do module blacklisting in the installer, probably in a file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf)
* anything else?

You can check the talk page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Talk:Official_Installation_Guide
Most stuff got closed because "The official guide is maintained in aif git".

* rc.conf looks quite different now, thre's no USEDIRECTISA anymore but we now have DAEMON_LOCALE.
* net-tools -> iproute2 transition: replace ifconfig mentions with the equivalent iproute2 command
* 'Official Arch Linux Install Guide Appendix' is now called 'General Recommendations'

1) maintaining rc.conf docs in install guide is a bit of a pita. => http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-releng/2011-December/002332.html
2) ifconfig->iproute has already been dealt with in docs in git
3) general recommendations -> fixed in git

rc.conf now comes with a manpage, so now we just refer to that in the official install guide.
as for the blacklisting, that can also be done in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf, so i just mention that in the guide now.
this is all in git now.
