DetailsI posted this earlier on the forums but created a bug report as requested:
Hi, I'm not too sure where I should post this, but personally I think the whole move from java 6 to java 7 was a bit too soon in Archlinux. Right after releasing it to the wild, oracle changed their minds and made it available for "the developers to ensure no major problems are found before we make it available on the java.com website for end users". http://java.com/en/download/faq/java7.xml Since I'm not a java developer but an enduser, like many others, I would like to ask you (package maintainers) to consider rolling back to java 6. (Not sure whether that's even possible with pacman) |

Can you please list some?
I don't know any other bugs besides a breakage with older lwjgl based games, nobody has said anything so I assume it all works.
The showstoppers reported by apache are rarely encountered. Afaik, they're the only projects affected by the bug.
(not sure if the issue was java version related or not though :))
Anyway, the answer I got was that it's standard practise that the older versions are being updated. Unless Oracle decides to abandon java or something like that :)
Yes, but I'm not sure it will be interesting :-) I can not build Netbeans Scala plugin from git because of some internal (com.sun...) changes in jdk7.

Exactly!
oracle originally released it for the general public, but since then, they've taken it back. [1]
I will move this back into the aur as soon as oracle releases an update which is labeled as ready for general use.
I expect that to be either the first or second update to java 7.
