DetailsHi! I've found that i really miss the smartctl on installation CD, because i want to check the disk health before installing it. I know that i can use badblocks, but it's not sufficient for detecting all errors (relocated sectors, etc...).
eg.: i'm in following situation: i have to install new machine on the go and i have few disks to choose from, but i have not anything else than empty disks, hardware and arch CD. so if i want to quickly test the disks i have to make network and pacman working on ramdisk to install smartmontools each time just to decide for the most healthy hdd... (it's quite annoying to do several times a day) |
