I'd say its probably due to your BCM4311 driver then networkmanager.

it happens to be from time to time and is not related to networkmanager. the only solution is to unload the module and load it again.

rmmod b43
modprobe b43

I figured the driver may be part of the issue, but im not convinced its entirely that as I had a day and a half of poor internet during which I restarted several times and sometimes couldnt even connect after a fresh boot.
Granted the b43 has the occasional troubles but as Ionut pointed out it usually sorts it self out after reloading. I've not seen unreliability like that before upgrading, or since downgrading.
That said there doesnt seem to be anyone else mentioning the problem anywhere so I could be wrong (unless they cant get online to report it? :D ) maybe my laptop just decided to be uncooperative and timed it around an upgrade to mess with me.

I have similar problems with b43 on my wireless module in laptop, frequent disconnects, failure to obtain ip and slow speeds. Installing the broadcom-wl drivers solved the problems entirely.

You're card is supposedly supported with the wl driver (archwiki:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_wireless#broadcom-wl)

Give it a try, fixed it for me!

Sorry for the delay replying.
Thanks for the suggestion Samuel but despite the wiki saying it should, the wl driver doesnt wanna play with my card - BCM4311 [14e4:4311]

To update the report, I have since experienced temperamental network access with the old version as well, so appologies, it would appear that the problem is not with networkmanager after all.

Im sure something is causing inteferance, as (despite its reputation) I rarely had a problem with it prior to my last bunch of updates. I've upgraded back to 0.8.9997-2 and applied all other available package updates, we'll see how it goes.
