Description:

uname -r reporting 2.6.39-ARCH with linux-3.0 kernel
Consequently impossible to build VirtualBox Modules.

maybe you didn't have enough space on /boot or if you have on different partition, it wasn't mounted?

Exactly, boot is not mounted!
It was a fresh arch install with /boot on a separate partition.
So why it is not added to fstab by the install script?
