Sorry I use neither gnome nor metacity, but if I use gtk window decorator from within kde it just seems to work fine. Am I missing something that doesn't work?

If so, can you tell me what I'm missing, what functionality exactly? Does it need metacity at build time (from the top of my head I don't build against it but I could be wrong)?

As you can see on the forum-thread, compiz 0.8.8-1 uses the fallback cairo-decorator instead of metacity.
Recompiling with metacity present enables the metacity-decorator again.

Compiz does work without it, so if you consider metacity support an optional feature I'd be fine with recompiling myself from now on.

the functionality that is missing is that the fall-back Cairo decorator is not customisable in anyway. if one wants to use the gtk decorator and theme it to ones liking metacity is required.

Thanks, I understood. I'll try to get to this tomorrow and add metacity as dep.
