Details

Description: Logrotate doesn't like the Exim log directory permissions. Should be owned by exim and not be group writable.
drwxr-x--- 2 exim exim 4096 Jul 22 09:40 /var/log/exim

Additional info:
* exim 4.76-4

* logrotate output:
error: skipping "/var/log/exim/mainlog" because parent directory has insecure permissions (It's world writable or writable by group which is not "root") Set "su" directive in config file to tell logrotate which user/group should be used for rotation.

@Soup:

seems that you've changed permissions by hand on /var/log/exim

right permissions should be:

drwxrwx--- 2 root exim 352 jul 29 12:08 /var/log/exim

and the files inside:

-rw-r----- 1 exim exim 5440 jul 29 11:13 mainlog
-rw-r----- 1 exim exim 1040 jul 29 11:13 paniclog

Sorry for the confusion; the permissions I provided are what I believe the correct ones to be not what they were on my system. That being group not have write permissions to the log directory, and the owner being exim.

Still without understand, what are the permissions on your system ? did you tried a reinstallation to see if the permissions get corrected?
