Details

KMail can not send mail using smtp.
It said error like: SAS(-4):.....
I recompiled it with --enable-login enabled. That's OK.

smtp sending doesn't work at all?
for me it does work

I'm guessing he uses some sort of (secure) login for smtp

weird your --enable-login can you point me to a doc where this is mentioned?
configure of kdepim doesn't include that.
perhaps you just forgot to logout and relogin after installation of your kde packages

ahhh found it on forum, you recompiled cyrus-sasl with --enable-login
ok will pass the bug to cyrus-sasl maintainer, this is not kmail related

Yes, it's cyrus-sasl problem, NOT kmail's. I'm sorry for not posting clearly. And what i recompiled is cyrus-sasl.

Thanks for researching this Tobias. Recompiled with --enable-login.
