The rename command included in util-linux-ng is dangerous because it has no interactive mode, and no "do not overwrite existing files" option. It also has no "show me what would be done", so there is no way to check in advance whether files will be clobbered or whether you've got your renaming logic exactly right -- you just have to be very careful and very sure of your parameters. There is a much better/safer version available in the community/perl-rename package; I would like to see that as Arch's default rename command. |
