XBMC is working correctly again. What was the goal of the XBMC 10.1-3 revision?
On Ubuntu everything is fine.
python2.7 patch:
http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/media-tv/xbmc/files/xbmc-10.0-python-2.7.patch?revision=1.1&view=markup
gcc 4.6 patch:
http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/media-tv/xbmc/files/xbmc-10.1-gcc-4.6.patch?revision=1.1&view=markup
bug reports:

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=367261
Based on the bug reports it will need the gcc patch so it can build with gcc 4.6. The python one is meant to help it detect python2.7.
I hope this helps.

was fixed in pre-11.0 (Eden) git. Thanks to simon_e.
Is using the git version recommended?
Eden is still 4 months away according to their Trac roadmap (assuming that's accurate).
