I'm using /usr/bin/claws-mail that works fine here. Try a full path name. Any special env variables set on your system?

Full path doesn't make a difference, and no special environment variables. I presume it's because libreoffice knows mutt is a terminal client, and so is looking for a debian-type /etc/alternatives link?
