DetailsDescription:
Possibly related to: Upon installing the xf86-video-intel package from the extras repository, switching to battery power, and starting a graphical interface (awesome3 in my case), computer will remain on for several minutes (between 5 and 30), then shut off. By "shutoff" I mean that the screen gets artifacts for a split second, then a total loss of power (like someone pulled the battery). Tailing dmesg.log, kernel.log, everything.log, Xorg.0.log, and watching sensors and /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state all yield no information about the cause of the shutdown. Upon uninstalling the intel drivers and re-loading the vesa drivers, problem disappears. Remaining on AC power keeps issue from appearing also. I have no power management software installed. an Ubuntu liveCD (11.04) doesn't display the same behavior. I applied the patch mentioned in the aforementioned bug, and no change in symptoms. my laptop was bought from here: http://www.ohava.com/index.php?Itemid=117&option=com_tienda&view=products&layout=view&id=3&task=view It is an Intel i7-620m, no discrete graphics. Additional info: xf86-video-intel 2.15.0-1 awesome-git 20110514-1 Steps to reproduce: Install Arch pacman -Syu install xf68-video-intel from extra install awesome-git from the aur load awesome-git (or presumably any graphical interface) wait about 10 mins ****Please Note**** 1. I've never filed a bug report before, so if I'm breaking some taboo, I apologize. 2. I'm installing debian, so I have a working system, I will reinstall arch tonight/tomorrow and will then be able to test whatever patches/pull whatever logfiles you need (I didn't see anything in the log files that related to the issue). |
This task depends upon
I would install windows and check the battery. Linux kernel rarely reports correct battery charge, because of rather specialized and buggy BIOSes...
