Description:
The Gnome 3 Network Manager (System Settings > Network) disables the Wired Options button when there is no IP assigned by a DHCP server. Additional info: Version: gnome-control-center 3.0.1.1-2 Steps to reproduce: Take two computers Plug crossover cable between the two Attempt to set network options via Network Manager - but can't. Gnome 3 is obviously hiring Microsoft chimps. |
This task depends upon
Terminal > nm-connection-editor
Select "Wired Connection 1", and "Edit". Set to the appropriate values. (Eg Shared to other computers or enter your static IP).
Exit from nm-connection-editor, plug cable in. Use the applet, and turn "Wired Connection" to "On".
Looks like the gnome-control-center was looking for a connection to become "complete" before it allows you to edit its options. Now if there isnt anything giving out an IP, its gonna sit there and wait forever.
