Mplayer2 doesn't have mencoder: http://www.mplayer2.org/comparison.html (scroll to 'Dropped features')

so,

first mplayer2 doesn't provide mplayer and this should edit in the PKGBUILD

second apps which need mplayer _could_ have also mplayer2 as optdepend ?

http://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/any/devede/
devede depends on mplayer, not on mplayer2, so what's the problem here?
Comment by mattia (nTia89) - Tuesday, 03 May 2011, 19:29 GMT
if mplayer2 can't provide mplayer, other packages which have mplayer as deps will have problems....

mplayer2 *does* provide mplayer:

[karol@black ~]$ pkgfile mplayer
community/mplayer2
community/mplayer-vaapi
extra/mplayer

it does not provide mencoder:

[karol@black ~]$ pkgfile mencoder
community/mplayer-vaapi
extra/mplayer

How can I specify mencoder dep for devede?
Comment by Øyvind Heggstad (Mr.Elendig) - Friday, 13 May 2011, 10:49 GMT
have all versions of mplayer that actually has the mencoder binary provide 'mencoder' and devede depend on mencoder maybe?

This problem probably also affects community/ogmrip

this could be a good idea !
Comment by Sergej Pupykin (sergej) - Friday, 13 May 2011, 19:47 GMT
@Ionut, Evangelos it looks like provides=('mencoder') in mplayers is best solution
Comment by Karol Błażewicz (karol) - Friday, 13 May 2011, 19:47 GMT
You can also add mplayer2 to the bug report title as actually it is the culprit.
Comment by Ionut Biru (wonder) - Friday, 13 May 2011, 19:54 GMT
why is the best idea? splitting out mencoder should be a better one
Comment by Sergej Pupykin (sergej) - Friday, 13 May 2011, 20:21 GMT
May be if mencoders in mplayer and mplayer-vaapi don't differ.

Anyway it is out of my competence.
Comment by Ionut Biru (wonder) - Saturday, 18 June 2011, 17:51 GMT
i just split mencoder out from mplayer
Comment by Evangelos Foutras (foutrelis) - Saturday, 18 June 2011, 19:21 GMT
And I removed mencoder from mplayer-vaapi.
