Evdev support in XOrg allows for better communication with the kernel and some common USB mice. It also allows for mice with more than 7 buttons to work properly in XOrg. Details on implimenting this can be found at the following thread in the Forums: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=74473

Additional comments about closing:  xorg has support for evdev now. You need to configure it yourself though.

This will probably wait til the next Xorg release, since xorg is a pretty hefty package to distribute.

Temporarily, you can use the tarball for this module from FreeDesktop.org's bugzilla. Sadly, the xorg SDK isn't included in the xorg package, so you'll have to make your own package for it.

I'll write a tutorial on how to make all of this work if there is enough demand...

Those patches/drivers appear to be from the Gentoo patches that are listed in my thread. There is already a PKGBUILD for XOrg using the Gentoo patches to enable evdev support in that thread as well, so there's no need to write another PKGBUILD for it.

I have already built the package with the patches and it works wonderfully.

Glad this is actually being considered.

Actually, the driver is a module separate from XOrg. Thus, you can still use the Archlinux XOrg package and simply install that module rather than modifying XOrg itself. I prefer that method, myself... that's what's in XOrg CVS HEAD now afaik.
