that sounds like an alsa bug and i think you need to pass some options to specify your model in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

I have same hardware and similar problem. Only when I plugged in, no sound from both speaker and headphone.

When running only ALSA without pulseaudio, the sound system works as you would expect them to. And yes I've to add the model options in /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf to get ALSA to work

My /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf has the flowing lines too:

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel

Without pulseaudio, alsa also works very well. But with new Gnome 3 the pulseaudio is necessary. So i think to the correction for this bug will be usefully for many users.

Does the card have an input device in /sys/class/input ?

Also, which configuration changes have you made (e.g. model=)?

My /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf has the flowing lines :

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4

and in my /sys/class/input the following entries(attached to the soundcard):
sys/class/input/input8

sys/class/input/input9

sys/class/input/input10

sys/class/input/input11

Does the card have an input device in /sys/class/input ?

- aparently no. Don't have any entry with name *sound*.

Also, which configuration changes have you made (e.g. model=)?

Yes, the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf has the line

options snd-hda-intel model=ALC272X

I solved my problem last night by enabling Auto-Mute mode in alsamixer-qt4.

Vaio VPCCW
alc262
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

But it needs to reconfig after each reboot.

in fresh installation I don't have any problem

these packages aren't installed yet.

extra/alsa-firmware
extra/alsa-oss ( and lib32)
extra/alsa-utils ( and lib32)
extra/alsaplayer
extra/gnome-alsamixer
community/alsa-tools
