Description:

Copy-paste feature not working by default. Bug is fixed after installing [uniconvertor] 1.1.5-3, but this package is not an dependency nor an optional dependency for inkscape package.

Additional info:

Using ArchLinux base install + xfce (without xfce goodies).

Steps to reproduce:

Verify that uniconvertor package has not been previously installed. Install inkscape using pacman as usual. Run inkscape and draw any shape (either by freehand, or using a tool). Select and copy the shape using C+c or Edit->Copy menu. Inkscape will show a popup window requiring uniconvertor python library to be installed in the system (screenshot of this window is attached).

Sometimes it will be possible to paste the shape, and sometimes it won't.

Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  If the problem persists with inkscape-0.48.2-5, please open a new bug report with *detailed* debugging information (since obviously not all of us can reproduce it).

I cannot reproduce this bug: copy-pasting works as expected for me.
Rémy, can you move your ~/.config/inkscape directory somewhere else and try again?
I agree that uniconvertor could be made an optdepend, but it escapes me why it would be required for plain copy-pasting...

In Inkscape, uniconvertor is only used by the extensions that enable reading/writing from special formats (Adobe Illustrator, Corel DRAW, AutoCAD, sK1, and WMF files). Unless you are editing a file in a special format, it should not interfere with copy-pasting. However, I'll add it to optdepends in the SVN trunk.

Well, it seems that you're right. Uniconvertor seems to be used only when importing formats other than SVG to Inkscape.

I still have this bug.

@jookia, ¿Did you reproduce the bug using the method I posted?
Comment by Joo Kia (Jookia) - Sunday, 15 May 2011, 07:15 GMT
@cristo It happens to me when I open Inkscape and try and copy and paste. No file loading. Even after loading a saved SVG I still get it.

did you check the upstream bug tracker?

Joo Kia: Can you or somebody else reproduce this bug on another computer?
Can you move your ~/.config/inkscape to some other place and try again?
If it persists, please file a bug upstream (I did not see any report there matching this bug).

It persists when moving ~/.config/inkscape.

I just installed inkscape on my netbook, copy and pasting wasn't broken.

I even tried compiling it from source and removing all inkscape related configurations. The problem still persists with xfce4-session.
