Details

running the xcompmgr -c with XFCE 4.2 causes my system to freeze completely. Mouse still moves but rest of system freezes, cannot exit X, cannot reboot system without powering down. Started happening after a whole bunch of new KDE and Gnome upgrades, possibly the new NVIDIA driver? Any help appriciated.

the composite extension is unstable, so do not use it.
it will take time before it is announced stable.
