Description:

Monday a week ago I updated my machine (64 bit) to 2.6.38.x kernel. The update went fine but since then I can't see my windows workgroup anymore. I'm running KDE 4.6.2 and I keep getting the error "no workgroups found in your local network". I turned off my firewall but I still can't see my network. I also tred smb4k and other smb programs in o0rder ot talk to the network but no go...

Here is a list of all the packages I updated when my problem began:

If this is not a bug? Then what is causing that i can't see my workgroup anymore? I can add my windows shares to dolphin manually by adding them as a network drive but otherwise they are invisible.

I can't see how this bug can be caused by our packages, did you change any of you windows configuration, router , or firewall?

No nothing has changed in my windows network, router or firewall.

Even with the firewall turned off I can't see the windows shares.

Have you tried downgrading the kernel package to verify that it's the cause of this issue?
Comment by André Fettouhi (A.Fettouhi) - Tuesday, 10 May 2011, 06:53 GMT
No, I haven't tried that yet since I don't have the 2.6.37.x in my pacman cache anymore.

You can try the kernel26-lts package and see if that works any better. However, it's quite possible that the kernel is not at fault here.

I will try that.

I just tried the lts kernel and with that kernel my Windows workgroup shows up fine. So IT IS the kernel 2.6.38 that is causing some problem or something related to it.

i think it was a problem with samba. now is see them using samba 3.6.0-7

OMG, I can confirm it works now with samba 3.6.0-7.

This is really strange, after installing samba 3.6.0-7 I could indeed see my workgroup again but after restarting my machine it does not work again sadly. I've turned off my firewall and I still don't see the workgoup.
