DetailsDescription:
Skype 2.2.0.25-1 crashes ocasionally and sound is very strange, with pulse and some sound cards, same bug that VLC 1.1.9 reported and deleted by giovanni (no solved, he use alsa, not can reproduce bug). Alsa+pulse+skype 2.2.0.25 crash, noise, and after some minutes fix only. More users with this problem: Reference: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=917631 Additional info: * package version(s) * config and/or log files etc. Skype 2.2.0.25-1 alsa + pulse + phonon-xine + KDE + ALC888 Realtek onboard sound card (azalia modules: snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer) Steps to reproduce: Open skype, and enjoy the noise. Temporal fix, pacman -U http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/archlinux/multilib/os/x86_64/skype-2.1.0.81-5.1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz Thanks. |
This task depends upon
Howto:
Disable alsa daemon in rc.conf
Creating asound.state with low level of master and PCM
Modify /etc/pulse/daemon.conf, sample rate 44100 to 48000
Add in /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf this line: options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dig
With this ""fix"" only noisy 4 seconds after start Skype, generating at start
Apr 19 05:13:30 localhost pulseaudio[1630]: ratelimit.c: 2928 events suppressed
And 14 seconds later:
Apr 19 05:13:44 localhost pulseaudio[1630]: ratelimit.c: 47 events suppressed
When ratelimit.c is more than 100, make noise and echo in sound card, is a bug of alsa with pulseaudio in ALC888, but, Skype 2.1 NOT produce this bug, i don't know the diff in the source of Skype 2.2 and 2.1
Steps:
Recompile a kernel without HPET, use tsc sourceclock, and tsched=0 in pulseaudio, and others changes in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf, is a bug in alsa snd_hda_intel that exploit with pulse audio timer and buggy hpet2 of kernel over AMD/ATI chipsets.
